Something New

The first time I ever did anything "interesting" with my hair was when I was a sophomore in high school and I put a pink streak in my hair. I remember asking my mom if I could do it and she said, "Ellen, as long as you don't get any tattoos or irregular piercings I don't care what you do to your hair." And so began my obsession with hair color.

I've done pink streaks, blue streaks, purple streaks, I've had blonde hair, brown hair, a dark color that was somewhat purple hair, and now my current dark blue/dark grey hair. Honestly it's my favorite form of expression! Someday I want to try red, like Ginny from Harry Potter red, but we'll see if I get there. But really I love what some people do with their hair color, it's so fascinating to me. At the beginning I did the the hair coloring myself and then discovered that having it done by someone who knows what they're doing makes my hair turn out so much better looking. I've been going to Deana Phelps for the past three years now and before her her mother Debbie did my hair. I was two when my family moved here from Georgia and my Mom found Debbie. She cut and highlighted my hair till I was 17. When I started getting more adventurous with my hair Debbie suggested that I start going to her daughter. Deana is the bomb, I come to her with any and all ideas and she delivers! She never disappoints and I love talking to her, she is the sweetest person on the planet and is always wanting to try new things and new colors. Check her out on Instagram because she is crazy talented and just all around an amazing person! (dp_hairdesigns) (#dphairdesigns)

Anyways! After getting my hair done and on a cloudy day my friend Annie wanted to go take pictures, which was awesome because I wanted documentation of this hair because I'm pretty sure it's my favorite so far! She also wanted to get some flower crowns for these pictures and since she's still new to the Mesa area she asked for my help. So I GPS'd flowers and up popped Zuzu's Petals. If any of you are thinking that the name sounds familiar it's from the movie "It's a Wonderful Life". Zuzu is the name of George Bailey's daughter and she gives him petals from her flower to try to make him feel better. Cute, right? This flower shop is located in Downtown Mesa, right down the street from the Mesa Arts Center, and this place is ADORABLE. Seriously we found this place by chance and it's so lucky we did. So we walked in there and started talking with the owner, Bess, and asked her about flower crowns and if she would be interested in doing a collaboration. This lady is so wonderful and she was totally on board. She made us the most beautiful crown in less than an hour! It was STUNNING. I'm so upset I didn't know about this place when I got married. It was so fun wearing this crown, honestly I felt like a princess. So here are the photos, I'm so excited to share! (Annie Ruby Photos)
